Fat Men and Universal Harmony

So there I was trying to think of a name for my blog.

I had itunes on shuffle and Leonard Cohen's "Closing Time" came on which contains the line, "I raise my glass to the Awful Truth which you can't reveal to the eyes of youth except to say it isn't worth a dime."

It's a great little phrase; "The Awful Truth." It sounded capitalized. Elemental. Like it should be carved in stone. So I decided to steal it.

Only later did I discover that it has been used many, many times before, including as the title of Michael Moore's short-lived TV show. And that is where the problem lies. I'm not really that keen on being associated with Mr. Moore. I mean, I kinda liked Roger and Me and Farenheit 911, but it seems to me he is becoming the Rush Limbaugh of the left wing. And really, is the best way to fight the half-truths and misinformation of the right wing with more half-truths and misinformation?

Do we really need an obnoxious and morbidly-obese windbag, dripping sweat and spewing vitriol at both ends of the political spectrum?

Is this the only way to keep the universe in balance?

Anyway, getting back to the blog, the question I'm struggling with is, do I change the name? Any suggestions?

  2. Wait a minute, is that you Hef?
If so, I was listening to that Walking Tall cassette the other day and your version of "Sweet Revenge" is still one of my favourite songs. That and "I See No Reason To Go On," or whatever it's called. If it's not Hef, never mind.
