I don't know why it has taken me so long to see it, I've been a fan since I first heard Rocket to Russia in '77 and saw the boys on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. In fact, that was a pretty ground-breaking episode – it featured both The Ramones and Bob Marley. Pretty astounding to see two entirely new forms of music on main-stream American television in 1977.
The Ramones I loved immediately, but I had to approach reggae by a more roundabout route, through the filter of The Clash.
Anyway, End of the Century is a fascinating movie. If you love rock 'n' roll, or just good documentaries, it's worth checking out. If you're like me you'll find yourself staring at the screen with a big goofy grin on your face, feeling like you're 16 years old again. At least until it all gets dark and bleak and ugly. But, hey, that's rock 'n' roll, baby.
